Welcome Spring time!  Ready or not – here it comes.  We at the secondary school are very busy with testing as well as all of the events that take place this time of the year--and in the middle of all of this March Madness, we get to take time out for Spring Break.

Next week starts the first round of testing with the 10th Grade TAKS English Language Arts test and the Exit English Language Arts test on March 7.  Then later this month, STAAR testing begins with English I End of Course Reading and Writing tests on March 26 and 27 as well as 7th Grade Writing and 8th grade Math and Reading on March 27 and 28.  We have been working hard in the classrooms and are ready to see the new STARR tests.

The UIL academic participants have been working hard getting ready for the District UIL Meet on March 21.  They have competed in three practice meets and have benefited greatly from the practice.  Thank you to all of the sponsors and students who have given up Saturdays to prepare for these events.  The one Act Play cast is also very busy preparing for the zone competition on March 22.  It is a real treat watching them rehearse and prepare for this competition.  Mr. Edwards and the FFA members are preparing for their spring judging contests, so don’t be surprised to see them out and about looking at plants, soil, and animals in the area.

Spring athletic events are going strong.  Both baseball and softball will be in full swing during the month of March and the baseball team has already played in some games.  The junior high track team competed in one track meet and did very well.  The high school track season begins the first week of March, and we are fortunate to be able to host the District track meet for both junior high and high school at our new track in April!!

Have a great March!!

Mrs. Hearne
