Bryson ISD Increases Security
Bryson ISD community,
We are extremely proud of the safety measures we have implemented within Bryson ISD for the last several years. Safety of our students, staff, and visitors is of utmost importance to our Board of Trustees, myself, and our staff.
With that in mind, and while always looking for feasible ways to improve, this summer our Board of Trustees adopted the attached GKC (LOCAL) policy.
I am sending it to you as FYI and I am explaining some changes that are in place for the school year that is about to begin because of the new policy.
Since the opening of our new buildings, we have locked all doors on the main school and the PE gym during the school day except for the front entrance at the main building. This year, that is being adjusted to allow for additional security measures.
While all main school building doors (other than the main entrance) and the gym front doors are scheduled to remain locked as they have been in the past, the doors that enter the main school building from the front vestibule and from Pam and Becky's office will be locked and have to be opened for people to enter the building.
When leaving the main school building (through those same doorways), motion sensors have been installed and you should be able to walk up to the door and open it. There are also large, red buttons that can be pushed that will open the doors in question when you are trying to leave the main school building.
For visitors, the attached policy requires them to sign in the offices, and be allowed entrance into the school buildings. The policy also expects them to wear a visitor badge while in the buildings and to return that badge to one of the offices as the they leave the school buildings.
This is being done to improve safety for our students, staff, and visitors. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we all work to make Bryson ISD as safe for all as possible.
As of now, for the first day of school, the system is planned to be disarmed for that day. If a need arises to extend that beyond the currently planned day of August 24, we will adjust accordingly.
Notices shall be posted at the entrances to the main school building requiring all visitors to first report to the campus administrative office. This shall apply to parents, Board members, volunteers, social service workers, invited speakers, maintenance and repair persons not employed by the District, vendors, representatives of the news media, former students, and any other visitors.
Visitors must sign-in in the offices at the front of the main building and list their reason for requesting to enter the school buildings including gyms, playground, Ag shop and Ag classroom, and field house during normal business hours. Once approved for entry, visitors will be given a visitors badge. Visitors are expected to return the visitors badge and sign out in the office once their visit is completed. Visits to individual classrooms during instructional time shall be permitted only with office and the teacher’s approval and such visits shall not be permitted if their duration or frequency interferes with the delivery of instruction or disrupts the normal school environment.
This policy can be temporarily suspended for special events by the Superintendent or their designee. Examples include but are not limited to: class parties, awards assemblies, and parent or community involvement activities.
