Southwest Baptist University-

U.S. Service Academies-

Intelligent, well-rounded students interested in attending one of the U.S. Service Academies entering in July 2001. I have information from
Congressman Charles W. Stenholm concerning application process. Deadline is December l, 2000


Scholarships-

An extremely competitive scholarship open to every senior.
Must have 3.0 GPA at end of junior year
Demonstrate: leadership, academic achievement, and motivation to serve

Plan to apply for as many scholarships as possible. Don’t neglect smaller, local scholarships, prizes of a few hundred dollars can quickly add up.

You must REGISTER with Selective Service within 30 days of 18th birthday. This is a law.

1.decide what you want to learn
2.visit while classes are in session
3.schedule your visit
4.schedule interviews with faculty and admissions staff
5.take the campus tour
6.ask lots of questions


College Entrance Exams-

There are two major college entrance examinations being administered in the U.S. today: The ACT and SAT.

The SAT is designed to test skill levels in math, vocabulary and reading comprehension, and is scored on a scale of 200-800 for both the
math and verbal sections.

The ACT is designed to test skill levels in English, math, reading and science reasoning. This multiple-choice test is scaled from 1-36.


TEST DAY TIPS:

1.be equipped (admission ticket, valid form of photo identification, several No. 2 pencils, calculator, watch
2.don’t cram
3.dress in layers
4.don’t spend too much time on one question
5.guess aggressively (the SAT penalizes for guessing) while (ACT does not)

Remember you must take ACT/SAT tests at least 6 weeks before deadline for scores to be submitted to colleges.

If you would like to visit a college this can be arranged.

Ask teachers in advance for recommendation letters.

Make a list of tests, dates, fees, deadlines for the admission process as well as scholarship and financial aid deadlines.
